E-commerce Store Launch

Boutique Shopify Store Launch

A home-and-gift boutique in Ohio taken from an empty Shopify account to a live dropship store, with every product tested at checkout and an owner’s playbook.

Status

Complete · store live

Role

Store builder and launch consultant: setup, supplier vetting, theme, testing, compliance review and owner training documentation.

Current milestone

The store is live and open for orders on its supplier products. The owner will add her own items later.

Technology areas

Shopify, Shopify Collective, Shopify Payments, Shopify Admin API

The problem

What the project is designed to address.

A first-time owner had a Shopify account but no business setup, no store policies, an unbranded theme and a test product on sale at $7.99. She wanted to sell curated home and gift items without holding stock, and did not have the time or technical background to finish the store herself.

The solution direction

A structured response to the operational need.

A done-for-you launch: business and payments setup, policies written for how the store works, curated Shopify Collective supplier products, a branded theme, a checkout test for every product, and a written playbook for day-to-day running.

Project context 01

What this proves and what it does not

It shows a complete launch, from an empty account to a tested, compliant, live store that a non-technical owner can run.

It does not show commercial performance. The store is new, and no sales or revenue are claimed.

Target users

Who the project is intended to support.

01

Shoppers looking for home, gift and lifestyle items

02

A first-time owner running the store alone

Project objectives

What the initiative is intended to accomplish.

  • Launch a store the owner can run without technical help
  • Sell only products whose margin and shipping work at checkout
  • Keep pricing within FTC rules from day one

Mohamed Sheriff’s responsibilities

Founder-led product and solution development.

  • Business setup and payments-verification walkthrough
  • Custom return policy and all required store policies
  • Supplier product vetting for margin and shipping
  • Theme branding, homepage banner, gift-guide section and menu
  • Checkout and shipping tests to a real Ohio address
  • Owner’s playbook

Architecture and workflow

How the system is put together.

  • 01

Shopify store on the owner’s own account, set up as a sole proprietorship

  • 02

Products sourced through Shopify Collective, so suppliers ship orders directly to customers

  • 03

Supplier shipping rates passed through at checkout

  • 04

Store policies, theme, menu and collections built around a gift-shop catalogue

Work completed

Documented deliverables and implementation milestones.

Completed and verified. Planned work is listed separately under the next phase, and the two are never mixed.

01

A launched store with seven live supplier products, chosen from thirteen vetted

02

Published policies, including a return policy written for the business

03

A branded theme with a homepage banner, gift-guide section and menu

04

A checkout and shipping test for every live product. One supplier could not ship, and its product was removed before launch

05

False “compare-at” sale prices removed, and the stray $7.99 test product taken off sale

06

A 17-page owner’s playbook covering orders, returns, adding products, taxes and next steps

Key decisions

Important choices shaping the project.

01

Test checkout before launch, not after

Shipping for every product was calculated at a real address before launch. That is how the one supplier that could not ship was found before a customer met the error.

02

No invented sale prices

Supplier listings arrived with “compare-at” prices that implied discounts the store never offered. They were removed so the store meets FTC pricing rules from day one.

03

The owner keeps every key

The owner entered her own tax and bank details and owns every account. The build was done without ever holding her passwords or financial information.

Constraints

What remains unresolved or incomplete.

  • The catalogue is small: seven supplier products at launch
  • Ohio vendor’s licence and sales-tax setup are still the owner’s to complete
  • One supplier still needs to fix its shipping setup before its product returns
  • No sales figures are claimed. The outcome recorded here is a launched, tested store

Next steps

Where the project moves next.

  1. 01

Add the owner’s own products alongside the supplier catalogue

  2. 02

Finish the tax setup and a returns address

  3. 03

Seasonal collections and banners through a monthly care plan
